Hi. I'm Amy. I enjoy fancy mustard. Alternatively: Sam Winchester. I like comics and video games. Talk to me about those things.
Anonymous asked:
Just wanted to ask, have you heard of any black game designers or pretty much any black poc working in any field related to games? I wanted to go into game design after i finished high school and i looked around a bit but i didn't really find much.
I have not! If anyone can reblog this with someone in mind, please do!

Hi, yes! I think I can help! I’m not black (I’m ethnically jewish, white-passing), but I’m a queer woman game designer, and diversity in gaming is sort of my whole thing! I have some resources you might be interested in.
For game discussion/criticism:
First of all, you should definitely check out I Need Diverse Games right here on tumblr, curating all the diverse gaming news fit to print. The woman who runs it is named Tanya DePass, she’s amazing! Additionally, she has a podcast called Fresh Out of Tokens, which also focuses on diversity in video games.
If you’re looking for people in the industry, make sure to take a look at the Black Game Developers database, which is a list of some of the black poc in the gaming industry; the database also gives information on how you can support each individual professional and their work!
I’d also honestly recommend that anyone interested in game development (either professionally or personally) make use of twitter, which is a great resource for finding and following the work of most developers, designers, and critics–twitter is pretty much industry standard at this point and tons of marginalized folks in gaming use it.
I’m sure I’m leaving people out and I’ll be kicking myself later, but I hope this is helpful! Please feel free to send me a message if anything needs clarification!
